Looking back Izzy and I have had a busy October with numerous competitions and training sessions as well as Izzy’s first clip for the winter- although now you wouldn’t notice as she has turned back into the big fluffy teddy bear of an Izzy!
The month began with Riding Clubs dressage at Merrist Wood where I represented Bookham Riding Club in my first Novice Test. I had spent the previous week trying to master the lengthened strides within the test and it paid off when we came second and the judge even noticed our lengthened strides!
The week after, Izzy and I had some fun x-country schooling at Gasstons Stables where we took part in a clinic. Throughout, Izzy was perfect, taking it all in her stride. By the end, she was flying massive hedges and enjoying the whole experience.
Christmas came early when 3 massive boxes addressed to me arrived outside my door while I was at school. My mum brought them up to the yard where I opened it up and couldn’t believe my eyes! Izzy is loving all the treats and toys and has taken a liking to the strawberry and caramel Likits in her Boredom Breaker. The Stud Muffins went down a treat where she shared a couple with her two favourite horsey friends- Tommy and Briony. Izzy is now definitely the envy on the yard!
The National Schools Equestrian Association Championships marked the beginning of the autumn half term holiday with Izzy producing a lovely neat clear round to leave us 15th in the jumping with style. We showed off our new Likit rug in the lorry park with a few commenting on how bright it was!
Taking advantage of the weeks holiday, I took Izzy x-country schooling at Tweseldown with my instructor Viv Pearson. Styling our new Likit numnah, we were working on our bold, forward canter to tackle the bigger (90-100cm) x-country jumps. Watch Izzy jumping in her new Likit numnah here:
Finally, as the month of October came to an end, Izzy and I took part in our yard’s Halloween gymkhana and show jumping, complete with a spooky handy pony which included a walk over tarpaulin. Izzy took a disliking to this so she decided to jump it!
With the clock change and the nights drawing in, I hope everyone stays wrapped up warm and enjoys the quick evening rides in the dark. We have a long list of competitions lined up as well as a trip to Your Horse Live to be looking forward to and plenty of opportunities to practising and perfecting our dressage and show jumping. Here's a video of Izzy tucked up in bed enjoying her lovely new Boredom Breaker:
