Lucy Rennie - May Blog

The beginning of May was a washout!! The fabulous Strathallan show to be held in Perth at Strathallan Castle was cancelled due to torrential rain and high winds. We therefore opted for a more local show at Muirmill Equestrian Centreand jumped the Jet Set qualifiers on Lucky Qualifying for the final at the end of summer.

We took, new pony Lulu to SWS BS Junior Academy at Morris Equestrian Centre. I had a fabulous lesson with only 2 of us in it as the older girls had School exams. We did lots of work on leg leads and balance and rhythm. I couldn’t stay for the stable management session as I had my own class exams the following week for my first year at senior school.

It was a long week at school, made worse by the fact I missed the first day of my exams as I was ill with a tummy bug and sore ears.  I managed to go into school the following day but was still feeling a bit poorly.

On Saturday the 9th May the sun came out and we took novice pony Lulu to the local agricultural show at Kilmacolm. We had a lovely picnic at the ringside with Granny and Grandpa after riding Lulu in the 75cm and 85cm getting placed 3rd and 2nd.

The 10th of May is a day I won’t forget in a hurry – the RHS Liz Fox JC qualifiers from Strathallan had been moved locally to Muirmill. This was my fourth qualifier to date. I hit a few poles hard in the first round but not hard enough to fall and got a clear round – one of only 7clear in the first round.  I was sick with nerves as I entered the jump off, knowing that only 3 of the 7 would qualify. Lucky tried her wee heart out and we had another clear round gaining us 1st place and a ride at the Royal Highland Show.  Whoop Whoop!!!  So Happy!!

My luck ran out the next weekend when we travelled to Dalry Show without a girth and had to return home having not ridden. As I had packed the van myself, it was my fault and Mum gave me the silent treatment on the way home so I knew she was angry.

Half term from school was exciting as we picked up new 8 week old Jack Russell puppy Lola.  Another animal with the letter L – Lucky, Lulu and now Lola. She is absolutely gorgeous but is hard work as she never seems to tire.  Her favourite pastime is chasing the cat and chasing the wheelbarrow while I pick up field poo.

I attended a horsey car boot sale the last week in May with some redundant tack and horsey clothing.  It was at the local feed merchants Horse and Pet Warehouse. I managed to raise £65 to go towards some new horsey things I need for new pony Lulu.

Our last show in May was with both ponies, Lulu was 3rd and Lucky won her class and then had 4fts in the other.  Poor wee Lulu was about to jump her second class when we realised she was lame in the practise ring.  The next day the vet called out and took her shoe off and she is getting her hoof poulticed as she has an abcess.  Poor Lulu will be off for a week to ten days to recover.

June is almost here, its still raining in Scotland, no sign of summer yet but Im looking forward to my long summer holidays starting at the end of June.  Happy riding everyone.

Love Lucy, Lucky and Lulu xxx
