The Pony Club Open Eventing League, sponsored by Likit, has reached its conclusion for 2013.
Over 30 Likit Open Eventing League competitions have been held all over the country since March, accommodating over 500 Pony Club horse and rider combinations across them.
The winner of the Likit Open Eventing League for 2013 is Shirley Stagg, from the Easton Harriers Branch of The Pony Club. Shirley, aged 18, amassed a total of 19 points with her horse 'Possibilities' and will benefit from the top prize of a day’s training with successful event rider Francis Whittington, and a very smart rug for Possibilities to wear courtesy of Likit!
“I am thrilled to have won the Likit Open Eventing League as I have been hoping to be able to compete in it for several years, and alongside Pony Club rallies and training it’s encouraged me to step up to Level 5 with confidence, so to have now won it is very special to me” comments 2013 winner Shirley Stagg. “Francis Whittington is an exceptional rider and is very inspirational, as his success started when he was in The Pony Club, so I am sure the day that I spend at his yard will be a wonderful experience, and I would like to thank both Likit for their sponsorship of the competition and The Pony Club for encouraging Branches to hold Level 5 events”.
Winners down the line to 10th place will also receive training bursary amounts, from £200 for second place down to £50 for tenth place, and also a smart Likit rug. A presentation day has been arranged at 4* event rider Nick Gauntlett’s yard, where winners will enjoy a yard tour and lecture demo from Nick before receive their Likit Open Eventing League prizes!
Any Pony Club Branch whose events include an Open (1.10m) Class, are eligible to register for the League with entrants gaining points for places and double clear rounds. The horse and rider combination with the highest number of points at the end of the season wins, with further placings being awarded to 10th place.
“The Likit Open League produces some good solid competition” says Liz Lyall, Chairman of Eventing. “The league gives Members at Open level give riders increased opportunity to compete throughout the year, improving the standard at the level overall and benefitting those who are looking towards Pony Club Championship qualification”.
