August has been a fun filled month for me and all the horses! We have been out competing and thoroughly enjoying the good weather!
At the start of the month we took the 5-year-old out to some dressage, it was only his second time out competing with us and I as so thrilled that he was placed 2nd and 3rd in his two tests in competitive sections. He was very chilled at took everything is his stride! Sadly, as the summer draws to an end, we returned to him home for the winter at the end of the month. I have had such a good time riding him and he has taught me lots all summer!
Fred is still loving his summer and is feeling better than ever! We took him to Cherwell for some dressage this month. It was his first competition since his health scare and I was very pleased that he behaved perfectly and produced two lovely tests to come 7th and 3rd in his classes, the prelim had over 18 people in. I had to learn my prelim test in the warm up before we went in and I hadn’t had a chance to practice my novice test so I was over the moon with him!
After his performance at his dressage we thought he would be ready to take him out eventing at the end of the month! We took him to various cross country courses to do some practice and took him to the gallops to ensure he was fit enough to complete a full course. He was absolutely delighted to be unloaded and to spot the cross-country course, he knew he was out eventing! He did a lovely test and I was very pleased with him as it was slippery on the grass and despite his studs he found it hard at times to balance. He flew the show jumping and went clear and then it was time for the cross-country! He loved every minute of it and did a faultless round over a technical course! I was so pleased with him as he really has bounced back into work and he was fit and happy to be out again! I was even more overjoyed to discover that we came 3rd overall in the whole class!
We finished the month with something a little different for a change! We took Roly out to Buck County Show to do some showing! It was a very big and busy show and the standard was very high. I took him into the Veteran Class and the Mountain and Moorland Large breeds class and he was super coming 2nd in the veteran’s class qualifying for the Veteran Horse Society second round qualifiers and he came 6th in a very large M&M class!
All the horses have also enjoyed hacking and schooling in the lovely weather! As always, they have been enjoying their Likit products and the Likit snacks proved to be invaluable whilst showing Roly, to keep his attention away from the surroundings of the busy show ground.
I hope everyone has had a super summer! Sadly school is approaching fast, however, I am going to take advantage of the light evenings and hopefully we will have some more events coming up next month!
Lucy, Fred and Roly!
